Tea & Harmony - August 2010

Nearly 40 ladies and gentlemen came along to the Community Hall at All Saints on Wednesday 4th August for Tea, friendship and a lot of dancing!  Many didn't know each other when they arrived but soon started chatting, getting to know each other and even re-kindling friendships from many years ago.

Most of our guests were over 70 years and from in and around the Parish of All Saints.  They shared tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes (served by the impeccably dressed waitressing service!) then were entertained by Peter Duneclift's beautiful voice (many songs they joined in with) then danced, ending in the conga - something most of us imagined would happen!!  We had music provided by Dave Mace and His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Clive Smitheram spent the afternoon with everyone, joining in many of the songs.

Our guests had the chance to speak with Louise from Age Concern to pick her brain on any issues they may have and for Louise to give some tips and All Saints Rev. Paul Bond, who chatted with everyone throughout the afternoon.

Anne Brown and Fiona Scullion, the masterminds of the afternoon said it was brilliant to see so many people enjoying themselves - who knows where this may lead!

Music on the Meadow 2010.

Once again The Lord smiled on us. What started out as a chilly and overcast day turned into a glorious sunny afternoon with crowds of people enjoying themselves.

The morning Praise Service was lively, with good music and a superb sketch courtesy of David & Christine Ryland, members of All Saints. The Korean Church sang beautifully to everyone in both Korean and English language, which added to the splendour of their voices.

The transformation into the afternoon Music Festival whereby the residents of West Ewell were entertained by 11 splendid acts; from harps to rock bands! The Meadow was packed, everyone seemed to enjoy the event and the refreshments, ices, BBQ, Beer Tent & children’s activity corner went well.

We all hope that West Ewell enjoyed the day, seeing their family, friends or just relaxing at All Saints' 2010 Music on the Meadow.

Take a snapshot look at some of the photos of the day

The Rev. Ian Whitham leading the children of All Saints'

Junior Church (and the congregation) in a very lively song!

The little ones from Junior Church singing their hearts out.
The service was supported by the Steve Whitehouse band, who provided the music.
Our Korean friends who worship at All Saints singing most beautifully a couple of hymns.

James (All Saints and one of Music on the Meadow's Organist and Keyboard support) with daughter Alicia singing his heart out with

the rest of the congregation.

The Mayor, Councillor Clive Smitheram and Mayoress, his wife Gill, thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Clive and Gill have been regular worshippers at All Saints for more than 30 years.

The BBQs were a great  hit - Ian's making sure it's all cooked

to perfection!

And Nick and John provided the sound for the day.

And, for the afternoon's entertainment........

The Elastic Band - Gilly, Jeff and Ian could be family members they

work so closely together.  It was great to hear their music, especially

as most of the songs were their own compositions.

The concentration of the local people who came along - some had come to the morning service and stayed on, others heard the entertainment and just came along and stayed!

A Trio of Harps - Three very talented, young, harp players

entertained everyone with a variety of popular tunes, as

you've never heard them played.

Rev. Ian Whitham enjoying himself chatting with everyone.

St. Clement's Songsters entertained the gathering with a wide

range of songs from the shows, their singing and dancing up

to scratch, as usual!

The crowds gathered, the weather got sunnier and warmer and everyone relaxed, enjoying the entertainment.

Jamie puzzled and enthralled us all by his magical talent - his

Magic Circle friends would have been very proud of him.

Little Saints Pre-School children were here, once again, singing a selection of songs, learnt especially for the day.

All That Jazz!   Laura and Josh, talented saxophonists and

members of All Saints youth group Substance delighted us

all with a selection of great Jazz numbers.

As always, Danetree School choir performed a selection of fun songs, well rehearsed, their hard work paying off.

Andy Hayward with his grandson, who masterminded the

whole event, supported by Ian, Richard and Sue (his wife)

West Ewell Infant School is no stranger to All Saints.  They sang many of their favourite songs.

Well what a fine group of chaps from local churches.  They sang

their songs, which were joined in by many.

Sarah Coulam, our own semi-professional Soprano, used her beautiful voice to entertained us with a mix of traditional ballads, fine arias and popular songs.

Copy & Paste - a young band, gaining an every increasing young

fan base ended the day off.  Since the Music on the Meadow,

they have won the local 'Battle of the Bands' competition!
